The band were formed in 1990 in Braintree, Essex by Liam Howlett. There first single that reached the charts in the uk was 'charley' it reached number three. There first album was made in 1992 it was called 'experiance'. They have been known to include controversial references to topics such as domestic abuse and drugs. They are still together to this date and have been touring for around 20 years.

The prodigy have many influences such the music of ska hip hop electro and rave but their favourite bands are public enemy the specials bomb squad protection

They have played with Rage against the machine, David Bowie, Moby and the chemical brothers. The most famous they have played with Dj was Paul Oakenfold.

They have been up for many awards the latest being best alternative band at the mtv awards 2009 they were up against muse, paramore, the killers and placebo.

They have been known to have been controversial at times with songs directed at drug abuse and domestic abuse the song most famous for this is 'smack my bitch up' which shows someone very bad night out with alcohol drug and domestic abuse in the video there is also the song 'charly' which is a barefaced reference to the highly addictive highly dangerous drug cocaine, when this was revealed the bands album the fat of the land was nearly pulled from many American supermarkets and after a disagreement with the beastie boys at a gig.

The prodigy a short history: they were founded in 1990 in Essex England by Liam Howlett still to this day a core member of the band, other members of the band are Keith flint and Maxim Reality. The first record they released was 'what evil lurks' on 12 inch vinyl and the first gig they played was the four aces in Dalston then called club labyrinth. Twenty years later they had set the world alight with four albums,worldwide tours and many top ten hits such as omem, breathe and take me to the hospital.

There five albums are the fat of the land, music for the jilted generation, always outnumbered never outgunned and the recently released invaders must die. They have been supported by many famous acts such as dizzee rascal, coldplay and Green day and some of there songs have been covered by other famous bands such as kasabian 'out of space'
